My inspiration and passion for batik came at a young age when my uncle was living in East Malaysia. I later developed this interest during my own travels in the Far East, notably in Java, and then practised further in London when I joined a batik studio.

Over the past twelve years I have further developed my love for textiles into a business. I sell batik scarf designs, silk, velvet and wool scarves, silk ties, larger pictures and hand-made cards through galleries and craft exhibitions.

My aim is to develop the traditional methods of batik by using a variety of dyes and different tools to apply the wax resist. This allows a greater depth in design and results in a rich combination of colours and patterns.

I also experiment with batik on paper. I have a collection of floral and abstract designs on Chinese paper inspired by natural forms and organic shapes. Recent travels in Central America, Guatemala and Belize have encouraged me to experiment with new colour combinations.

Working as a part-time teacher has allowed me to develop my business in many areas, including contributing to books on batik. I also teach batik freelance in primary and secondary schools and run courses at my studio in North London.
